BALTIMORE, MARYLAND — The Baltimore Orioles hired Jared Banner as general manager on Monday, MLB.com reported. Banner, 41, had been an assistant general manager for the Chicago Cubs.
Banner will work alongside Mike Elias, the president of baseball operations, in running the baseball operations department day to day. He will lead player development, coaching and performance and work with Elias on strategy, staffing and talent acquisition.
Elias had held both titles since he was promoted before the 2025 season. The Orioles went 79-82 in 2026 and finished fourth in the American League East, missing the postseason for a second straight year after playoff trips in 2023 and 2024.
Banner worked 11 years for the Boston Red Sox, who won three World Series in that span, then was the New York Mets' executive director of player development from 2018 to 2020 before joining the Cubs in December 2020. He had been Chicago's assistant GM since 2024.
The Orioles will introduce Banner at a news conference at Camden Yards on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
