SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA — The Washington Commanders cut a 20-point deficit to six in the second half but lost 23-17 to the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night at Levi's Stadium, when Jayden Daniels was sacked on the final play, the Commanders reported.
San Francisco led 23-3 early in the second half. Daniels then completed five of his six passes on an 11-play drive that ended with a touchdown to Stefon Diggs at the goal line, and after a defensive three-and-out he found Rachaad White for a 9-yard score.
Washington reached the 49ers' 17-yard line on its next drive, but Treylon Burks could not hold a fourth-and-3 pass near the goal line. The defense forced one more stop before the final sack.
Daniels finished with 29 completions for 300 yards and two touchdowns. Brock Purdy went 17-of-22 for 214 yards and a touchdown in the first half, when the 49ers outgained Washington 303-90, and Christian McCaffrey ran for two 1-yard touchdowns. Washington outgained San Francisco 224-72 after halftime. Terry McLaurin was carted off with an apparent knee injury.
The 49ers are 6-0. The Commanders have their bye week before hosting the Philadelphia Eagles.
