EASTON, MARYLAND — Talbot County residents who are not yet registered to vote and want a ballot in the Nov. 3 general election have until Tuesday, Oct. 13, to register online or by mail.
The Maryland State Board of Elections lists Oct. 13 as the last day to register online or by mail. Mailed registrations must be postmarked on or before that date. The Talbot County Board of Elections lists the same date as the last day to register or change party affiliation for the general election.
Voter registration applications ask for a Maryland driver's license number or MVA ID card number, or, if the applicant has neither, the last four digits of a Social Security number. Applicants without any of those identifiers can affirm that under penalty of perjury, according to the state board. The county board's flyer also lists a text option: text VOTE to 77788 to register, or CHECK to 77788 to check an existing registration.
Missing Tuesday's deadline does not end the chance to register and vote. The state board says eligible residents can register in person during early voting, Oct. 22–29, at an early voting center in the county where they live, or at their assigned polling place on Election Day, Nov. 3. Bring a document that proves where you live, such as an MVA-issued license, ID card or change of address card, or a paycheck, bank statement, utility bill or other government document with your name and new address. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Talbot ballot includes races for governor, comptroller, attorney general, the General Assembly and the U.S. House 1st District, along with County Council, sheriff, state's attorney and four Board of Education seats, Districts 1, 3, 4 and 7, according to the county flyer.
Early voting runs Thursday, Oct. 22, through Thursday, Oct. 29, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Talbot's early voting center is the Easton Volunteer Fire Department Bingo Hall at 315 Leonard Rieck Drive.
Voters who want a mail-in ballot sent to them by mail or fax must have the request received by Oct. 27. Requests for a ballot delivered by email are due online by Oct. 30. Completed mail-in ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by the local board of elections by 10 a.m. Nov. 13. Ballots returned in an official drop box or handed to a local board of elections must arrive by 8 p.m. Nov. 3.
The Talbot County Board of Elections is at 215 Bay Street, Suite 7, in Easton, and can be reached at 410-770-8099.
