EASTON, MARYLAND — Talbot County voters will settle contested races for County Council, the Orphans' Court and three Board of Education districts on Nov. 3. Four other county offices on the ballot have just one candidate each.
The County Council race lists 10 candidates for five seats, five Democrats and five Republicans, on the Maryland State Archives' Talbot County general election page, which credits the Talbot County Board of Elections as its source. Democrats are Michael Bibb, Susan E. Delean-Botkin, Marvin Foster, Ronald E. (Pete) Lesher Jr. and Brian R. Naranjo. Republicans are Charles F. (Chuck) Callahan III, Frank Gunsallus, Christian MacKendrick, David C. Stepp and Wade Strickland. Voters may choose up to five.
For the Orphans' Court, four candidates are running for three judgeships: Democrat Philip Carey Foster and Republicans Michelle Ewing, Elizabeth A. Ferguson and Carol van Erven.
Three school board districts have two candidates each. District 3 lists Amy R. Dodson and Anne F. Rosen; District 4, Mike Butler and Emily L. Jackson; and District 7, Lisa Hayes and Kate Taylor Logan. In District 1, Xavier A. Rahim is the only candidate listed.
The races for state's attorney, sheriff, circuit court clerk and register of wills each list a single candidate. Republican Joseph Irvin Coale is the only candidate for state's attorney, Republican Joseph J. Gamble for sheriff and Republican Kathleen M. (Kathi) Dulin Duvall for circuit court clerk; the page lists no Democratic candidate in those three races. For register of wills, Democrat Patricia E. (Patti) Campen is the only candidate, with no Republican listed.
Campaign committees in the general election face one more deadline before the vote. The State Board of Elections' schedule sets Friday, Oct. 23, as the due date for the Pre-General Report 2. For most committees it covers transactions from Aug. 19 through Oct. 18; ballot issue committees start counting on Oct. 5, and a new committee starts on the date it formed. Reports can be submitted online until 11:59 p.m. that day. The next report is due Nov. 17.
