EASTON, MARYLAND — Pickering Creek Audubon Center is taking paddlers out on Pickering Creek for an evening of fall color on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The leaf-peeping canoe paddle costs $15 per person. Life jackets and paddles are provided. Children must be at least 5 years old and must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is through the center's programs page.
The center's listing says paddlers can watch autumn color come into the forest on both sides of the creek as sunset approaches, and keep an eye out for herons and eagles.
Pickering Creek Audubon Center is at 11450 Audubon Lane in Easton. From Route 50 at the Easton Municipal Airport, the center's directions turn left onto Airport Road, immediately right onto Route 662, Longwoods Road, for 2.8 miles, then left onto Sharp Road for 1.5 miles, then right to stay on Sharp Road for 1.2 miles. Pickering Creek is on the right; the parking area is 0.4 mile down the driveway. Questions go to the center at 410-822-4903.
The center also lists a free Trail Monitoring Day for volunteers Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to noon, and a Pickering Creek Nature Mystery scavenger hunt Sunday, Oct. 25, from noon to 2 p.m., costing $10 per group of up to five.
