EASTON, MARYLAND — Easton's Historic District Commission will take up five building and property requests at its meeting Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Easton Town Office, 14 S. Harrison St. One request, at 319 August St., would remove a healthy black walnut tree.
The commission reviews exterior changes to properties in the town's historic district, from windows and doors to signs and large trees. Under town code, the commission rules on the removal of any healthy tree more than 10 inches in diameter at chest height inside the district, and each request must come with a letter from a Maryland Licensed Tree Expert evaluating the tree.
For the August Street walnut, town staff recommend tabling the application until a letter from a Maryland Licensed Tree Expert is provided. That request returns as old business, along with a plan at 219 S. Harrison St. to replace vinyl windows with Marvin Elevate double-hung windows. Staff recommend approving the window plan if the commission finds the proposed two-over-two pane pattern appropriate for the house.
New business includes a wall sign of black acrylic letters for 6 S. West St., which staff support as submitted. A request at 206 South St. covers the front door and windows; staff recommend that a replacement front door be a four-panel design matching the historic door. At 121 S. Washington St., the owner proposes rebuilding the front portico over the entry with a standing seam metal roof, fiber cement siding on the side and AZEK trim.
The commission meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 14 S. Harrison St. The agenda and staff reports are posted on the town's online meeting portal.
