EASTON, MARYLAND — The Town of Easton is taking sealed bids to demolish the house at 125 S. West St., and will open and read them aloud at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Town Office at 14 S. Harrison St. in Easton.
The work covers complete demolition and removal of the two-story residential structure and an accessory structure on the lot, including foundations and debris. After demolition, the contractor must rough-grade the property, seed the disturbed ground and cover it with straw or another erosion-control layer.
The town itself applied for the demolition. The commission's Sept. 28 agenda listed the house as a contributing structure and called that meeting the first of two required meetings for demolishing a contributing structure in the Historic District. The town's bid notice, dated Oct. 1, says the demolition has received approval from the commission. The Sept. 28 meeting listing does not include a decision summary; the commission's Oct. 13 agenda says approval of that summary is scheduled for Oct. 26.
The town issued a condemnation notice dated March 6, 2026. The notice, included in the commission's Sept. 28 meeting packet, says: "During inspection, severe structural deflection and sagging was observed along the left side of the dwelling." It adds: "These conditions create a risk of partial or complete collapse."
According to the town planning staff's report to the commission, the owner did not act by an April 6 deadline, and on Aug. 7 the District Court permitted the town to abate the violation by demolishing the condemned structure at the owner's cost.
The winning bidder must get all required permits and follow town, state and federal requirements. Bid specifications and contract documents are available at the Town Office. Questions go to Easton Code Enforcement at 410-822-2526.
