EASTON, MARYLAND — The Talbot County Commission on Aging has started a newsletter, Aging in Action, and it wants older residents, caregivers and families to tell it what belongs in the next one.
The first edition went out by county email on Sept. 1. The county featured it on its news page Oct. 7, describing it as a newsletter "designed to help older adults, caregivers, and families stay informed and connected."
"Most importantly, this is your newsletter," the commission wrote in the first edition. It asks readers what topics they want covered, what questions they have about aging, which local services, programs or businesses have made a difference for them, and whether they have a story or tip to share. Responses go through an online feedback form linked in the newsletter. The commission says each issue will carry local events, wellness and safety information, caregiving resources, volunteer opportunities and community highlights.
The first edition also introduces the commission's Nursing Home Subcommittee, set up to give older adults, caregivers and families "clear, unbiased information" about long-term care. The county's nursing homes page carries the subcommittee's downloadable guides on care options, residents' rights and how to file a complaint, along with a nursing home comparison chart. The commission says it does not regulate nursing homes or recommend specific facilities.
The newsletter flagged what it called an urgent need for essential supplies for seniors, including incontinence supplies such as Depends, and pointed readers to the Talbot County Health Department's Amazon wish list.
The Sept. 1 edition also listed volunteer opportunities. It announced Talbot County Public Schools' Read, Share and Connect program, pairing seniors with students to read together, and directed questions to Katie Fox at 410-822-0686. It also listed food pantry volunteer opportunities at the Neighborhood Service Center, with Yvette Robinson as the contact at 410-822-5015.
The next Senior Resource Fair is set for May 19, 2027.
